Sauna Warehouse FAQ

Sauna Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q. What power is required to run the Infrared Saunas?

A. Most of our Infrared Saunas only require a normal household 10 amp power point, (No need to upgrade or use an electrician (unless in the rare case that circuit is already maxed out)). if you are putting in a power point, please put it where you can easily access it, so that you can turn the power off at the main power point after each use. (Wise 4-person Infrared is 15amp or 10amp) please check with Sauna Warehouse if you are not sure)

Q. What power is required for the Traditional Finnish Steam Saunas?

A. Our Traditional Steam Saunas must be hardwired by a qualified electrician, The power required depends on the model, 3500w to 6000w, check our brochure or website for more information.

Q. How hard are the saunas to install yourself?

A. It will take two people to put a Sauna together. A novice will take about 30 to 60 minutes to build and install their own Sauna. The saunas are easier to put together than most Ikea Furniture, in fact you could build 2 or 3 saunas in the same time it takes to build an Ikea set of drawers. Our Saunas just click together.

Q. Do we need building approval to get a sauna installed?

A. No building approval is required for any of our Saunas.

Q. Are Saunas actually good for your health?

A. Yes Saunas are very good for your health, sweating is actually healthy in many ways and longevity is associated with people who have regular sauna sessions. Saunas are good for your skin, your heart, your muscles and even your joints can benefit from sauna therapy.

Q. How long should we stay in the Sauna?

A. It is recommended 40 minutes max.

Q. What is the best way to use an Infrared sauna?

A. Go into the sauna while it is warming up, around 45c, this way you are getting heated up by the infrared heat. Many people make the mistake of setting the sauna to 60c and not going in until the temperature has reached 60c, but this is wrong, as the heaters will turn off and you will not be getting any infrared therapy. You have to go in as the sauna is warming (at approximately 40 to 45c).

Q.Is it OK to lye down in an Infrared Sauna?

A. If you lye down in an Infrared Sauna, you will not be getting as much Infrared therapy. Also hot air rises, so it will not be as hot in the sauna if you are at a lower level. For these two reasons it is best to sit up in a sauna.

Q. How long from order to delivery?

A. We usually have your sauna in stock, if not, it is usually already on order and we are awaiting our delivery. Usually we can deliver your sauna the same week as you purchased it, and if you are picking your sauna up, you can usually pick it up within a day or two of ordering.

Q. What wood do you use in your Saunas?

A. We use a few types of wood, Cedar, Hemlock and FIR or Russian Spruce. Cedar is the most expensive wood to use, but we use it for it’s beauty, aroma and temperature tolerance. We use Hemlock for it’s beauty, it’s even tone, temperature tolerance and popularity. We use FIR or Russian Spruce for our outdoor range as it is tougher than the other woods and has excellent heat and weather tolerance and has a beautiful aroma.

Q. I heard that Cedar wood is bad for you when used in Saunas, is this true?

A. No this is not true, many manufacturers do not like to use Cedar in their Saunas, because Cedar is very expensive, it is also very hard to source, and it is hard to work with and get the same finish as Hemlock or BAS Wood. Many sauna companies that do not make, or can not get Cedar Saunas will twist the truth, just to get the sale and promote their own brand. We sell many types of wood saunas, so we are not biased, we will only speak the truth. There is research that shows that; long term, people who cut or sand cedar in factories all day long can have adverse health benefits (if they do not wear the proper protective breathing equipment). Unfortunately many sauna companies twist this information, to say that Cedar is bad for your lungs. Cedar has been used in saunas for hundreds of years, and is still one of the main woods used in custom built and professional commercial saunas world wide. Cedar is more than safe, it is one of the preferred woods throughout history and even to today.

Q. How do Infrared Saunas work?

A. Infrared heaters not only heat up the sauna, they also heat you up. The best way to explain this, is that if you are outside on a cold day, but you are standing in the sunlight, the sun will slowly be warming you up, where as if the person standing next to you is in the shade of a tree, they will not be getting warmed up by the sun. Although the temperature outside is the same for both of you, you will be getting warmer and they will be feeling cold. This is the best way to think of Infrared heat, as it is the same heat as the sun, but without the ultraviolet light and harmful radiation. Unlike the sun, Infrared saunas are safe, and work the same when it comes to heating you up.

Q. What temperature do the Infrared Saunas go up to?

A. Because Infrared heats you up, as well as the sauna, for health reasons, it is recommended that Infrared Saunas go no hotter than 60C. Our Infrared Saunas go to a maximum of 60c, any hotter than this can cause hyperpigmentation as the skin can get too hot, this is why 99% of sauna manufacturers have limited Infrared saunas to 60c.

Q. What is more popular Infrared or Traditional Saunas?

A. About 80% of our sales are Infrared, these seem to be more popular these days.

Q. Why are Infrared Saunas more popular?

A. Infrared Saunas do not need any special power requirements. They cost less to run, heat up quicker, they have many extras such as multicoloured therapy lighting, air ioniser, Bluetooth stereo, speakers and digital touchpads, they have deeper penetration of heat and finally they are a more comfortable temperature. We have even heard that there is more toxins in the sweat as compared to a traditional Sauna.

Q. Why can't the traditional Saunas have all the extras like the Infrared Saunas?

A. The traditional Steam Saunas have more moisture, due to people putting water on the hot rocks, this steam is not good for electrical appliances, and the high temperature is also too hot for many of the appliances.

Q. Can I put an indoor Sauna outside?

A. Yes you can as long as it is under cover and out of the rain, the sauna will not be as efficient outside, but many people still do it.

Q. Are your Infrared heaters low EMF?

A. Yes we believe our Infrared Sauna heaters are the lowest EMF on the market, there is less EMF’s in our saunas than what you would find on your laptop or even driving in a car.
